What I Wish I Knew Before Starting My Business (The Real Behind-the-Scenes Truth)

When I started Organically Glow, I didn’t have a business plan, a coach, or even an example of someone who had done it before me.

What I had was a feeling—a deep, soul-level knowing that I was meant to do this.

I knew I wanted to help other women heal. I wanted to make an impact. I had no clue how that was going to look, but I was all in.

1. You’re Going to Feel Fear—Do It Anyway

When I pivoted out of the traditional medical system, walking away from becoming a nurse practitioner, I was terrified.

Every decision felt like a risk. Every post felt vulnerable. I didn’t know anyone else building a business like this. But I knew this was the path I was meant to walk. So I did it scared.

The truth? Fear doesn’t mean stop. It just means you’re stretching into something new. These days, when fear hits, I don’t freeze—I move. I physically get up, shake it out, and keep going. That’s the muscle I’ve built. And you can build it too.

2. Your “Why” Is Everything

In those early moments—when I was overwhelmed, unsure, and exhausted—my “why” kept me grounded.

I wasn’t doing this just for me. I was doing it for the women who, like me, wanted freedom from autoimmunity, from fatigue, from feeling stuck in systems that weren’t made for us.

So when you’re launching that offer, showing up online, or rethinking everything… come back to your “why.” Let it guide you.

3. Burnout Isn’t a Badge of Honor

I’ll be honest. I hit burnout hard.

I was showing up for clients like clockwork, but behind the scenes? Total chaos. I was doing everything manually—sending emails, confirming appointments, handling Zoom links, onboarding, payments. No systems, no support.

And I paid the price. I skipped meals. Skipped workouts. Felt wired and anxious 24/7. That wasn’t success. That was survival.

Burnout doesn’t have to be part of your story. Systems save you. Boundaries protect you. And structure doesn’t restrict you—it frees you.

4. You Can’t Serve Big with a Wobbly Back-End

One of the biggest shifts in my business came when I finally got my systems together.

I started using Calendly to streamline calls. I created automated onboarding. I set up workflows so that once a client said yes, I wasn’t scrambling to send forms or links. It all just happened.

You want to hold more clients? You want to serve at a higher level? You must get your business back-end in order. That’s not “extra.” That’s essential.

It’s not glamorous—but it's what allows you to scale without sacrificing your health.

5. Clarity Comes From Action

Let me be real: when I started, I didn’t have a polished offer. I was literally selling elderberry syrup from my kitchen.

I posted what I was taking. People asked if I sold it. I said yes. Boom—business.

Then I evolved. Got certified. Built my signature offers. Changed them. Changed them again. And again.

Clarity didn’t come from a vision board or meditating in the forest—it came from doing. Messy, awkward, imperfect doing.

Don’t wait to feel clear. Start messy. Evolve as you go.

6. You Can’t Grow Alone

One of the best decisions I’ve ever made is consistently investing in mentorship.

Not because I needed someone to “tell me what to do,” but because I needed someone to reflect what I couldn’t see.

I’ve had people show me where my gaps were, where I was hiding, where I was trying to force things that didn’t fit.

If you're constantly second-guessing yourself or spending hours watching what other people are doing, it’s time to turn inward. Or get someone in your corner who knows how to help you tap into your clarity.

7. Certifications Can Be a Crutch

I love learning. I’ve invested in a ton of certifications and trainings. But I realized at one point I was using education as a way to avoid starting.

“Oh, I just need one more certification. Then I’ll be ready.”

Sound familiar?

Here’s the truth: no amount of certifications will make you feel “ready.” You’ll always be learning. But don’t let that become your hiding place. You know enough to begin.

8. Make Investments with Intention

I’ve made great investments. I’ve also made emotional, rushed ones that didn’t deliver.

One time, I paid thousands for a program based solely on the sales page hype—and got inside only to realize it wasn’t aligned with what I actually needed.

Now? I pause. I ask questions. I check in with my body. If it’s not a full-body “yes,” I wait.

Don't outsource your intuition. It’s one of your greatest tools as a business owner.

9. You’re Allowed to Evolve

You’re not locked into any one version of your business. You’re allowed to evolve. In fact, you should.

My business has gone through multiple iterations—and I’m sure it will continue to shift.

  • Build businesses that hold their purpose without burning them out
